This review is a work in progress. I’m adding pieces of information as I find them so I will continuously update.First if you’re looking for a cheap substitution to give a kid that similar to an Apple Watch this is NOT the product for you it’s not designed for that and it won’t have that functionality.If you’re looking for a way to keep tabs on your child and for them to contact you or you contact them with a couple of extra bonus features, you’re in the right place.Here’s my list of things that are frustrating and or annoying or make no sense to me at this point:1. I can restrict the watch from receiving calls from numbers that are not in the phonebook and from making calls that are not in the phonebook however Apps loaded onto the Watch have full functionality please see below for why this is a safety issue.2. No one can send a regular text message for example from a phone to this watch even if you’re added to the phonebook. The child cannot send a regular text message from the watch to your phone . There is an app on the watch that allows kids to send the family member with the parent app on their phone a message (again the message goes to the parent app) BUT The watch can only be registered to one parent app which means if you have a two parent household or parents and grandparents etc. only one person can get the messages from the child and only one person can send a message to the child because that’s the only texting option there is unless you install one of the text apps- see #3 below3. A parent can install various messaging apps such as Facebook messenger, line and WhatsApp. This is a gigantic safety issue as from WhatsApp or line or messenger the child from the watch has full control over who they add as friends and who they can message. particularly since what’sapp is encrypted end to end the parent cannot see who or what is being sent back-and-forth within those apps on the watch, and in fact if something were to come up law-enforcement has no way to retrieve that data either. I think this is the dumbest thing about the watch and what irritates me the most. Why give parents the ability to lock down the watch and give then kids full access messaging apps it would be similar to giving a full web browser. I can’t imagine it would be that much more difficult to enable SMS capability on this watch it’s certainly capable based on the Sim card.4. There are various watch faces to choose from you can choose whether the network sets the date and time or you do it on your own however because this watch is able to be used globally it can be really confusing for kids in the United States. You cannot change the date format and in the United States we write dates MM/DD and most other countries date format is DD/MM. right now when our American child looks at her watch it looks like it’s 07/06 when in fact really it’s June 7 and there’s no way to change. this there’s not even a way to change it so it gives the word for the month.5. For no apparent reason this watch repeatedly shows our child location 15 minutes away from our house. It's just a random other house, no connection to us the kid has never been there Other than driving by the house on our way to get somewhere else periodically. this is a huge safety concern of having to get up trouble for not being where they’re supposed to be when they’re not lying it’s a system issue. I’ve changed every GPS setting available on the watch and it’s made no difference it still repeatedly gives the completely wrong location. even if it’s showing the right location it’s not really right it shows the kid three houses away from where we live I don’t expect pinpoint accuracy but this is just as bad as general range GPS trackers for pets so it’s really not effective.Here’s my list of positives OR Things that are positive but have the potential to be security issues depending on how you want look at it.1. From the parent app at anytime you can use the camera on the watch to take a picture of your child and their surroundings there is no indication whatsoever on the watch that this is being done. If you want to visually spy on your child here’s a tool.2. From the parent app at anytime you can remote activate the microphone on the watch so in real time you can hear exactly what’s going on within microphone range of the watch, again the watch gives no indication this is happening and as far as I can tell there’s no way to disable it.3. Numbers one and two above could be seen as awesome safety features but they can’t be turned off. in addition the parent app as far as password security is concerned it’s alpha numeric that’s it, so the potential for the app to be hacked is reasonably high and if someone was able to do that they would have access to everything. As a parent if a child was older and in a locker room or bathroom situation it would make me uncomfortable even a dressing room in a store that another adult could potentially be using a Watch to do inappropriate viewing of children.
