Update 7/3/2022: I still purchase Amazon gift cards for family and friends for special occasions. I do not have the gift cards sent directly to the recipient because there is no way to include a proper gift note (not a receipt paper like their currently include). I would love to see Amazon gift cards come with a greeting card that can be personalized at checkout, printed on demand by Amazon, and mailed directly to the recipient.Original Review:I love Amazon gift cards. I order them often for various occasions. This time I ordered a $25 gift card inside of a congratulations card for my significant other's co-worker who is moving to a different facility to accept a promotion.The card is really nice. It is blue in color and says congratulations on the front with a large lowercase a for Amazon. You receive the card with the gift card inside of it, and a blank envelope for mailing. These items are inside of a sealed envelope to protect the gift card number from being stolen before you redeem it.If you only order a gift card inside of a card, such as this one, it will be delivered in a padded envelope to your front door. This can be a problem because more often than not the padded envelope is bent and that means that the card you want to give as a gift inside is bent as well.Due to the way these are generally shipped, I try to order them with other items so that it will be delivered in a box. I've never had an Amazon package stolen which is a good thing because sometimes they don't deliver the packages until 8p.m. and I'm already in bed.If your gift card is lost or stolen there is nothing that Amazon will do for you. They will not replace the gift card, so guard it like you would guard cash and that includes the purchase when it's delivered to your house. You wouldn't leave $25 in cash on your front stoop, so try not to leave your gift card there either.When sending this as a gift they put your gift message on a separate piece of paper that is the standard gift message paper. This is really disappointing. A company like Amazon could certainly print your message inside of the greeting card if you ordered it as a gift. Other companies offer that service.The most annoying thing about the little gift message paper is that sometimes Amazon forgets to put the gift message paper in your box. When this happens the gift recipient has no way of knowing who sent the Amazon gift card, so you may never receive a thank you. Seriously Amazon print inside the cards!The great thing about Amazon gift cards is they do not have usage fees of any kind. They do not charge a fee if your card is dormant for an extended period of time. Additionally, Amazon gift cards never expire.The gift card is attached to the inside of the card with some adhesive. The adhesive peels off easily. The gift card is ready to use when you remove it from the card, there is no peel off strip or scratch off strip which reveals the gift card number. I think this is why they come sealed in an envelope to prevent theft.If you buy more than one gift card of the same type at the same time but they are different amounts, you will not know which one is which. The gift cards do not have the value written on them. I recommend ordering them one at a time for this reason, unless you are ordering multiple cards of the same value.Amazon does not offer refunds or returns on gift cards. If you happen to order too many it's not a big deal because you can apply them to your own Amazon account and spend them on Amazon. Once you redeem a card it stays on your account, so make sure you actually are ready to redeem it.Once you have a gift card balance on your Amazon account you can use the funds towards the purchase of anything sold on Amazon's website, whether it's sold by Amazon or by a third party seller. The only exceptions to this rule are that you can not use a gift card to purchase gift cards or collectible coins.Amazon gift cards are also valid for Kindle books which is a nice way to keep track of how many books you purchase without having to monitor your credit card. Every time you make a purchase when you have a gift card balance you can select whether you want to pay with the gift card or your credit card.Keep in mind that if you pre-order something on Amazon, such as a DVD or book and you pay with a gift card that you are not charged until the item ships. It is possible that you might apply the gift card to a different purchase before your pre-order ships so keep this in mind if you are strapped for cash.If you redeem an Amazon gift card on your account it is permanently linked to your account. If you have a high value gift card you cannot split it between multiple Amazon accounts, so keep that in mind if your family uses more than one account.To redeem an Amazon gift card, visit your account on the website using your computer or a mobile device. You can also redeem your gift card in the Amazon app installed on your cell phone or tablet.Amazon gift cards offer free one day shipping no matter how many or how few you order, regardless of the value that you order. They are perfect for last minute gifts, forgotten special occasions, and keep on hand gifts so you always have a gift when an unexpected event arises.I have ordered dozens of Amazon gift cards in cards, tins, and holders. I have never had a gift card arrive that was not activated or that could not be redeemed. When you order a gift card the serial number shows up in your Amazon account under the order, so if there's a problem, Amazon can fix it.I buy Amazon gift cards on a regular basis for birthdays, congratulation gifts, graduation gifts, and other special occasions. They truly make the perfect gift.My nieces just recently got an orange cat and loved these.
